m(OR)f

An exhibition in progress.

m(OR)f will be a series of photographs, drawings, texts, videos and objects (both appropriated and crafted); three public programs including an artist talk, community conversation, and a visual storytelling workshop; as well as a zine. The intent of this exhibition is to create a dialogue surrounding gender roles and expectations through an amusing and absurd examination of traditional concepts of womanliness and femininity.

Themes

  • performance and presentation of gender

  • femininity/masculinity

  • vestigial passivity/aggression (as a result of social cultivation)

  • sex positivity/freedom/education

  • transformation, healing, and agency

Objectives

  • aid in the JUSTIFICATION of identity politics and affirm the importance of…

  • aid in the DESTRUCTION of traditional male and female gender roles and expectations

  • aid in the CREATION of new, positive, gender-fluid roles that emphasize equality, growth, and spiritual fulfillment within all types of relationships (familial, professional, romantic, platonic etc.)

Untitled (1.1), 2018

m(OR)f will critique the gender binary system and will explore ways in which people can begin to re-shape their expectations of others in the ways they naturally operate, rather than based on their gender. Concepts such as positive and inclusive education regarding sex, relationships, and emotional intelligence — as well as the religious, governmental, and capitalistic systems of power, control, and oppression — will be used as a backdrop to investigate, and aid in the dismantling of traditional, binary, female and male roles.
